Prickly Heat Rash

Heat rash is also known as prickly rash, indicating one of its most important symptoms: the feeling of little needles being stuck in the skin of the affected person, at certain moments in time. Basically, prickly rash is not just one skin problem, it is the name of a multitude of skin issues that are caused by one thing: overexposure to heat. Obviously, due to its one and only cause, prickly rash appears generally in the summer months or in areas with high temperatures all year round. This means that people in Africa and in South America are more predisposed to suffer from prickly rash than the ones in Finland, for example.

This skin condition is self - limiting, in general, and it will resolve itself in about five to six hours after the affected person leaves the overheated environment. Of course, if that is not possible, the symptoms evolve to some rather nasty looking bumps and patches of dark red on the skin of the patient. Unfortunately, this is the moment when a simple problem necessitates some medical treatment, in the form of a cooling lotion or, even, an antibiotic cream, if the tiny pustules are getting infected. Also, it is recommended to keep the affected area uncovered, since it helps if the pustules dry up on their own.
